Pay Scale: SSC Stenographers (Grade 'C' & 'D')

  • For Grade 'C' pay scale: 9300 - 34800 Rupees + Grade Pay 4200 rupees (Pay Band 2)

Age Limit

Required Qualification

Candidates must have passed 12th standard or equivalent as on 01-Aug-2017 from a recognized Board or University.

Application Fee

Candidates need to pay an application fee of Rupees 100/- through SBI Challan/ Net-Banking and Debit/Credit Card. Females, SC/ST, Physically Handicapped and Ex-Servicemen candidates no need to pay any application fee. Fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.

  • A citizen of India, or
  • A subject of Nepal or a subject of Bhutan or a Tibetan refugee who came in India, before the 1-January-1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or (e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

How to Apply for SSC Stenographers in 2017

Candidates can submit their applications only in online mode through the official website of Staff Selection Commission. Online application will be available from 17-June-2017 to 15-July-2017 (upto 5.00 PM). Procedure of filling the application form through online mode given here below:-
  • First visit the official website of Commission http://ssconline.nic.in/, and jump over the heading "Recruitment for Stenographers (Grade 'C' & 'D') Examination, 2017" then click over "Click to apply" which is in blue colour. After that you will be redirected on http://164.100.129.99/steno2017/ that is actually the "Application Form Window".
  • SSC Steno 2017 has mainly three parts i.e. "Registration Part", "Instructions to Candidates" and "Apply Part".
  • Candidates must have to read the important instructions carefully before filling application form under "Instructions to Candidates".
  • Then candidates have to fill basic required details in "Registration Part" i.e. Name, Father Name, Address, DOB, Education etc.
  • And in finally "Apply Part", candidates need to pay application fee, upload scanned photograph and signature in proper size and dimensions as described in "Instructions to Candidates".

Selection Procedure

Selection of the candidate will be finalized on the basis of their performance in Computer Based Examination and Skill Test. After qualifying the Computer Based Examination, candidates will be called for the Skill Test. Candidate will have to qualify in each part of Computer Based Examination. The skill test will be of qualifying in nature and the Commission will fix the qualifying standards in the skill test for different categories of candidates.

Scheme of SSC Stenographer Examination

There will be an online computer based online examination as mentioned below:-
  • Question paper will contain 3 Parts i.e. Part-I (General Intelligence & Reasoning), Part-II (General Awareness) and Part-III (English Language and Comprehension).
  • Part-I will contain 50 questions for maximum 50 marks.
  • Part-II will also contain 50 questions for maximum 50 marks.
  • Part-III will contain 100 questions for maximum 100 marks.
  • Question paper will be objective multiple choice type. Questions will be set in Hindi and English except Part-III.
  • Total Time for solving question paper will be 2 Hours (2 hours and 40 minutes for VH/OH)
  • There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.

Skill Test

  • You will be given a dictation for 10 minutes in English / Hindi.
  • The speed will be 100 w.p.m for Grade 'C' Stenographer and the speed for Grade 'D' Stenographer will be 80 w.p.m.
  • You will have to transcribe the dictation on a computer in a given amount of time.
  • The transcription time will be for Grade 'C': 50 min (English), 65 min (Hindi) and for Grade 'D': 40 min (English), 55 min (Hindi).
